In that night,
God appeared to Solomon,
and said to him,
"Ask what I shall give you."
2 Chronicles 1. 7
(And how would we answer?
Every morning before we
go into the day,
what are we seeking
from the LORD?
Even on this very day.
What we need goes
far beyond stuff:
kindness, grace, wisdom,
a heart of forgiveness,
awareness not just of
the needs of others
but how we can respond.
God is not a genie
of three wishes,
but the Almighty One
who strengthens us
and who is right here with us.
Interesting to note that
this incident unfolded
right after Solomon worshipped.
Worship always
radically alters our hearts.)
O LORD,
May our prayers be as incense
to You.
May we worship You
into this day
in all that we do and say
and even what we ask of You.
Cover us with what we need.
Shield us from what we don't.
May we not just hear Your voice
but listen to You
and respond.
