...he shall restore it in full
and shall add a fifth to it,
and give it to him
to whom it belongs
on the day he realizes
his guilt.
Leviticus 6. 5
(What does it take
to make it right?
We cannot rewind,
or pretend it didn't happen,
or hope a "sorry" will stick.
Not just ignore our mess,
or justify our wrongdoing,
or kind of apologize,
but make it right
and add 20 percent to it.
We are forgiven,
but we still need to reconcile,
restore,
and turn the relationship
rightside up,
as much as in our power to do.
Not just enough,
but a little bit more,
knowing that little bit more
may be a big slice of our pride.
Not just that we receive grace,
but practice it too.)
O LORD,
Help us to practice grace
in the hard places of life,
because Your grace
cost You Your life.
Please empower us
not just to fess up
to You,
but grant us Your courage
to restore what we can
and add a fifth to it.
Grace always employs
going beyond the necessary
to the unexpected.
The object always involves
relationship.
Heal, O LORD,
the brokenness,
stop the bleeding out,
redeem what tears us apart.
Bring Your glory
even to this volatile situation.
