Not At All What We Expect

 

And he cried to the LORD,

and the LORD showed him 

                     a log,

and he threw it into the water,

    and the water became sweet.

                   Exodus 15. 25

(When we come before the LORD

          with our needs,

are we willing to take His help

   and accept 

   what He puts in our hands?

When we pray,

     God empowers us

     to see all things differently,

new dimensions and possibilities

          even in a barren place.

It is not that we need new doors,

    but to have a new heart in this.

The very act of praying

                          changes us.

"You gave me a log?"

       His glory comes with it.)

O LORD,

You make possible what

    we don't even know to ask.

You don't just give us the tools

      or change the situation,

but You give us Yourself

             and change our hearts.

Help us to trust you more

   and be struck by what

   we cannot see.

                           Yet.

Turn the impossible

       into Your glory today.

Even in what we never see

       or comprehend,

You give us exactly

                what we need.

Open our eyes to Your wonders.
