Then David fled
from Naioth in Ramah
and came
and said before Jonathan,
"What have I done?
What is my guilt?
And what is my sin
before your father,
that he seeks my life?"
1 Samuel 20.1
(The plot thickens.
About this time,
David was wishing
he was back tending sheep.
Sometimes
--make that most of the time--
things turn out far differently
than we expect,
sometimes the consequences
of someone else's sin, greed,
selfishness or disobedience.
Even then,
even when it requires
that we run for our lives
or life gets more difficult
or hard to understand,
God redeems,
not just the situation,
not just a happy ending,
but God redeems our lives.
God does not redeem,
future tense.
He is already redeeming,
in the now.
Far beyond our
wildest imagination.
Far beyond what
we can see from here.

O LORD,
May we listen and respond
to Your voice,
to Your nudges,
and to Your Word,
that we may be faithful
wherever we are today.
Help us to
tie on our shoes,
and our pockets with grace,
that we are ready
to flee
or to do what
You have placed before us.
Align our hearts with Yours
that we may follow You.
And to trust You in this.
Even in this.
