Be strong,
all you people of the land,
        declares the LORD.
Work,
     for I am with you,
declares the LORD of hosts.
...My Spirit remains
              in your midst.
Fear not.

              Haggai 2. 4-5

(Not that
     "God will show up."
But it is we who are
     late to the party.
God is already here
       in our midst.
Trusting God changes
     our steps and trajectory,
what we see,
whether we react
            or respond,
what we do,
who we are,
    and Whose we are.
How would we navigate this
if we knew He is here?
What would we do
                 differently?
It is not a matter of success
or perceived failure,
       but faithfulness.
God brings the perennial fruit
  that lasts far beyond
                  our lifetimes.)

O LORD,
We waste a lot of energy
    and worry
and deplete our work
because we have not
                 trusted You.
You are with us.
You call us to get to work,
do the next nearest thing,
and stand faithfully
          at our post.
And when we look up,
even in the midst
             of our labors,
even in the miry bog,
even on the mountaintop,
   we sense Your Presence.
You are still with us.
You have been with us
                      all along.
May we not be surprised
     but know You.
