And I prayed for Aaron
also at the same time.
Deuteronomy 9. 20
(Moses was mad.
He was furious,
horrified by what Aaron
had done in his absence.
Everything was at stake.
But Moses' first response
was not to condemn,
or take revenge against him,
disown him, walk away,
or seek his suffering
--what he deserved--
but to pray for Aaron's good,
well-being and forgiveness.
Why is it so hard
to pray for those
who have done us wrong?
Or to cover offences with grace
and not turn away?
Because forgiveness
profoundly changes history,
the course of the entire world,
and seeks to preserve relationships
above any misdeed,
intentional or not.
May we keep the relationship first
by praying for them.)
O LORD,
You know that
we need forgiveness.
That is why You sent
Jesus for us.
As You have forgiven us
once for all,
grant us the strength,
compassion and grace
to forgive others.
Even in this situation.
Please help us
not to just be mindful
of the relationship
but to use forgiveness
to nurture it.
Even when we're hurt,
empower us to
live faithfully,
love well,
and practice grace in this.
You are over
everything.
