May I Refresh Your Drink?

 

And whoever gives

   one of these little ones

even a cup of cold water,

because he is a disciple,

truly, I say to you,

he will by no means

         lose his reward.

           Matthew 10. 42

(Jesus asks us,

What are we doing differently,

   or with a new heart,

   or able to be selfless,

because we are

          His disciples?

Do our lives look different 

than anyone else

      by the choices we make

in our work, words,

attitudes, and response?

Are we practicing grace

   in unexpected ways?

What cup of cold water

   can we give in this situation

or even to this person

   we may not even like?

Chick fil A workers respond,

   "May I refresh your drink?"

No kindness is

          ever insignificant.)

O LORD,

Grant us the courage

            and awareness

  to practice grace

     in unlikely places

     and unexpected ways.

Empower us

   to see others

   as You see them.

Help us to be

     not just Your hands and feet,

but have the mind

    and heart of Christ.

And thereby surprise others

       with Your grace.
