And behold the LORD passed by,

and a great and strong wind

   tore the mountains

   and broke in pieces the rocks

                    before the LORD,

  but the LORD

               was not in the wind.

And after the wind an earthquake,

  but the LORD

               was not in the earthquake.

And after the earthquake a fire,

   but the LORD

               was not in the fire.

And after the fire

      the sound of a low whisper.

                    1 Kings 19. 11-12

(How much do we miss

   because we are looking

               for the spectacular

       and not for God?

Sometimes He uses the wow

    to get our attention.

More often He uses the now

    to meet with us there.

He whispers,

    "I am with you.

     Do not be afraid.

     Walk with Me.")

O LORD,

Forgive us for seeking

         signs and wonders

and not listening

   for Your still small voice.

You are not just in the next thing

           but right here abiding in us.

You are with us.

And You are the Almighty One.

Help us to not just

          listen for You,

          but listen to You.

And know You more.
