…and broke down

      the walls of Jerusalem.

             Jeremiah 39. 8

(That’s what

listening to another voice,

ignoring the LORD,

not responding

         to His nudges

   or knowing His Word,

choosing and justifying

           our way instead,

seeking selfishness

         in many disguises,

does:

it erodes away,

breaks down,

brick by brick

our strength,

     our defenses,

     our trust in the LORD.

It is not what God

            does to us,

but what we do to ourselves,

and then wonder what happened.

There are no small

            disobediences,

no insignificant cracks.)

O LORD,

Help us to be faithful to You

as You call us to Yourself.

Every situation

is an opportunity to

     bear Your image into it.

Every difficulty

  is an opportunity to build

   our trust in You.

Every impossibility

   is for You, O LORD,

to replace our fear and dismay

with Your power and love

    to transform the world.

Trusting You

  changes not just this day,

but the journey,

our direction,

and Your incredible outcomes

of which we are mostly unaware.
