For you have forgotten
the God of your salvation
and have not remembered
the Rock of your refuge....
Isaiah 17. 10
And then we wonder
why things seem so very wrong.
In the Hebrew, forgotten
does not mean
Oh, oops, I forgot,
but ceasing to care, to leave,
to cause to forget because
we are unmindful, distracted
and just not listening to Him.
It is not just a matter of
acknowledging Him,
but placing ourselves before Him.
If we do not worship God,
lesser gods take His rightful place,
and many such things
clamor to do that,
vying for our attention
and falsely promising us
what only God Almighty can do.
O LORD,
You have given each of us
a chronicle of Your faithfulness.
Help us not just to forget
what You have done,
but who You are, the Almighty God.
Guide us back to You.
Draw us to You.
And help us to be intentional
about keeping You
as Lord of our lives.
Because life is never the same
without You.
In one way and another today,
help us to keep our eyes,
our thoughts, our attention,
on You.
And empower us to see
the difference You make
in how we respond
to circumstances
and to each other.
