O God,
You are my God,
earnestly I seek You.
My soul thirsts for You,
my flesh faints for You,
as in a dry and weary land
where there is no water.
Psalm 63. 1
(This psalm was written by David,
when he was in the wilderness,
being pursued by his foes.
It was there
in that most unlikely place
that he did not
experience God's absence,
but in those dire circumstances,
he realized his need for God
and the reality of
God's Presence with him.
The wilderness is never
a God-forsaken place,
not to somehow earn God's favor,
or learn some kind of lesson,
but to yearn for Him.
These desperate situations
equipped David
for what was ahead.
And what is God forming in us
through our difficulty?
It is not even that
God meets us
where the wild things are,
but we realize He has been
with us all along.
God reveals His wonders there.
God reveals Himself.)
O LORD,
We are hungry.
We are thirsty.
We are weary of this
dry spell,
wild beasts,
rocky road,
and long-distance loneliness.
Help us to not just believe
but to know
that You are with us
and You are
in this.
Please make us aware
of the wonders here
hiding under every rock,
around the next turn,
and emblazoned in
the sunrise,
that pushes back the darkness.
