Whatever Is Before Us

 

Even though I walk through

the valley of the

        shadow of death,

I will fear no evil,

  for You are with me.

Your rod and Your staff,

     they comfort me.

             Psalm 23. 4

(Let not the familiarity of this verse

     sap it of its promise.

When we realize God's Presence

in this place or on this path,

        we walk differently.

We see our surroundings

           or scenery

   with new eyes and hearts.

"I never saw that before."

And even in the hard parts,

  we see a new way through,

  because He walks with us.

In the valley of deep darkness,

   God brings His head lamp.

Watch for Him.

What we are experiencing now

   is radically impacted by

our shortsighted approach to life,

   instead of an eternal one.)

O LORD,

Even in this deep crevice,

this rocky ascent,

this valley of darkness

   that just seems like

an unending highway

   or death on the horizon,

You are with us.

You don't just show up.

     You are right here.

Please help us to trust You

  and not our myopic eyes.

Your promises hold us tight,

            Almighty One.
