Not Just A Federal Holiday

 

For unto you

is born this day

  in the city of David,

a Savior,

  who is Christ the Lord.

         Luke 2. 11

For unto us a child is born,

    to us a son is given,

and the government

  shall be upon His shoulder,

and His name shall be called

Wonderful Counselor,

Mighty God,

Everlasting Father,

          Prince of Peace.

          Isaiah 9. 6

(Jesus was announced

      to the shepherds

   two thousand years ago

      in a field covered in darkness.

But He was also announced

   800 years prior

   by the prophet Isaiah.

Jesus is proclaimed to us

        by Scripture,

        by His Spirit,

and by lives transformed by Him

       all around us.

Christmas is not just a holiday,

   but a time of radical change.)

O LORD,

Thank You,

   not just that You came,

but You are still Immanuel,

           God with us.

Thank You that through Jesus

   we can know You.

   We are forgiven.

   We are changed.

Nothing can ever

           be the same.

Abide in us.
