They served their idols

which became

    a snare to them.

(Everyone worships something.

If we do not worship God,

a lesser god will take

     His rightful place.

An idol is an object

        of extreme devotion

that slips in the back door

    and takes up residence.

An idol will always

     deflate our tires,

        dominate our time,

        mind and emotions,

     and trip up

         our relationship with God.)

O LORD,

May we set our eyes on You,

focus our attention and time,

and trust You fully.

Please help us to be wary

      of disguised idols

--the ridiculous things--

that distract us

   from Who You are.
